Kolkata Doctor Case: Supreme Court announces formation of task force

Kolkata Doctor Case, There is uproar across the country regarding the rape and murder case that took place in Kolkata. Doctors are protesting in different parts of the country regarding their demands.

Supreme Court hearing has started in the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The apex court took suo motu cognizance of the case of rape and murder of a junior doctor and vandalism in the hospital. The bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud comprised Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra.

The bench expressed concern over the identity of the victim being revealed in this case. Besides, questions were raised on everything from the police investigation to the role of RG Kar Medical College Principal Sandeep Ghosh in the case. The court decided to form an eight-member task force in the case. Apart from AIIMS Director Dr. M. Srinivasan, names of many other doctors were included in it.

A case has been registered against Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. CBI was interrogating Sandeep Ghosh for the last four days. The Supreme Court today heard the case of rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud heard the case.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice said that this is not just a case of murder. We are concerned about the safety of doctors. The bench said that women are being deprived of security. The bench asked how will doctors work in such circumstances. We have seen that at many places there are not even rest rooms for them.

Today women are increasingly joining the workplace. We cannot wait for another rape to ensure their safety and bring about change. The fear of violence in the medical profession has increased. Due to patriarchal thinking, women doctors are targeted more. The Supreme Court said, “If women are not able to go to work and the working conditions are not safe then we are denying them equality. Most of the young doctors work 36 hours a day, we have to ensure safe working conditions.” There is a need to make a national protocol for this.”


The Supreme Court said that we are considering the issue related to the safety of all health workers, therefore we request the doctors who are protesting across the country to return to work, because this will hamper the health services provided to the patients. There is a problem.

The Supreme Court also expressed displeasure over revealing the identity of the victim. The court said that this incident is sad. The Supreme Court announced that after this incident, it is going to form a National Task Force regarding the condition of doctors. This task force will work under the supervision of the court. The Supreme Court also sought a status report from the CBI in the case by August 22. Besides, CBI was also ordered to complete the investigation within three months and submit the report. The court sought a report from the task force within three weeks.

In this case, it has been a week since the doctors’ strike on Sunday, due to which the patients are facing problems. The protesters demand that the CBI arrest the culprits and the court give them maximum punishment. Apart from this, he wants assurance from the government that no such incident should happen again in future.

The high court ordered the transfer of the investigation to the CBI while hearing petitions, including a prayer by the victim’s parents for a court-monitored investigation.
