A Delhi gold merchant robbed and shot in Patna on Thursday. Ansar Ali and his son Ahtesham Ali came to Patna for Business purposes. They are Gold merchants from Karol Bagh Delhi. The Police said “The incident occurred near the Samrat Hotel, near the Dak Bungalow Chowk, when three men, on a bike, snatched the bag from the victim named Ahtesham Ali and shot him in the hand when he tried to resist”

The Police team reached at crime spot for the investigation Superintendent of Central city Patna Chandra Prakash said that Ahtesham Ali and his father Ansar Ali, residents of Delhi’s Karol Bagh, had come to Patna for business.

When they stepped out of their hotel, the three robbers targeted them. Eyewitnesses said that two of the robbers, after committing the crime, fled on the bike while another walked away from the spot holding a gun in his hand and no one dared to intervene

“As soon as we learnt about the incident, we reached the crime scene. We are scanning the CCTV cameras to identify the accused. A tracker dog was also called to find clues about the robbers,” the SP said.

Ahtesham Ali was admitted to Patna Medical College Hospital and his condition is stable. During Investigation Police found out that the Victims regularly came to Patna for business, selling gold ornaments in the jewellery shops. The robbers probably spotted the victims in Patna and committed the crime in a planned manner.

What is the Punishment in Case of Robbery?

In all robberies, there is either theft or extortion. Robbery is a criminal offense defined in Section 390 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Robbery is committed when a person takes or attempts to take property from another person in the following ways, according to the IPC:

  1. By using or threatening to use force.
    By injuring the person or causing them to fear injury.
    3. By attempting to kill or severely injure the person.
    4. The property taken or attempted to be taken can be movable or immovable, and it must
    be taken with the intent of permanently depriving the owner

Robbery is a serious criminal offence that is punishable by imprisonment for a term of up to ten years, as well as a fine. If a deadly weapon is used in the robbery, the punishment can be even harsher, including life imprisonment or the death penalty. The punishment for robbery is noted under Section 392 of the IPC.

Robbery (Section 392 IPC): If the theft involves force or the threat of force, it can be considered robbery. In such cases, the punishment can be imprisonment for a term that may extend to 10 years and a fine.

379B. Snatching after preparation made for causing death, hurt, or restraint in order to the committing of snatching.—Whoever commits or attempts to commit snatching, having made preparation for causing death, or hurt, or restraint, or fear of death, or of hurt, or of restraint, to any person, in order to the committing of such snatching, or in order to the retaining of property taken by such snatching, shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than seven years but which may extend to ten years, and with fine which may extend to twenty-five thousand rupees.

Possession of Stolen Property (Section 411 IPC): If the thief is found to be in possession of the stolen two-wheeler, they can be imprisoned for up to three years and fined.
