Major action by Hyderabad Police in phone tapping case, Hyderabad Police has taken a major action in the case of phone tapping. The case pertains to the alleged tapping of the phones of several persons, including Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy during the Assembly elections last year, and destroying certain computer systems and official data.

Two senior police officers have been arrested on Saturday night. Those arrested are Additional DCP Tirupatanna and Additional SP N Bhujanga Rao. It is being told that N Bhujanga was posted in the CM Security Cell during the BRS government in Telangana. It is alleged that during BRS tenure, phones of opposition leaders were tapped to monitor them.

Let us tell you, Tirupatanna has previously worked as Additional Superintendent of Police of SIB. Bhujanga Rao has been Additional SP of Intelligence Department. Both officers have been accused of being part of surveillance teams that allegedly listened to telephone calls of opposition politicians. He is accused of colluding with suspended SIB DSP D Praneet Rao.

It is believed that these officers used to report to Rao. Let us tell you, Rao has already been arrested by the Hyderabad Police for erasing intelligence information from various electronic gadgets as well as for alleged phone tapping during the previous BRS regime.

Both the officers were called to Banjara Hills police station, where Praneet was being interrogated for the last one week. It is learned that Praneeth and the two officers were jointly interrogated. Hyderabad Police, in an official release late Saturday night, claimed that during interrogation, both the police officers have confessed to their involvement in a conspiracy to illegally conduct surveillance of private individuals by developing their profiles by misusing their official positions.

Also, both the arrested officers have been accused of working in collusion with former Special Intelligence Bureau officer Praneet. It is alleged that they also tried to make evidence disappear by destroying public property to hide their involvement in the crime. The release said the investigation is ongoing.


Let us tell you, on March 13, Praneet Rao was arrested, accused of creating profiles of unknown persons and destroying some computer systems and official data besides secretly, unauthorized and illegal monitoring of them. Rao was recently suspended by the Telangana government. He was the DSP during the previous BRS government and later served in the office of the Director General of Police (DGP). He was earlier accused of tapping the phones of opposition party leaders.

On March 10, based on the complaint of an Additional Superintendent of Police of the SIB, a case was registered against Praneeth Rao and others at Punjagutta police station here.

Sharvan Rao is said to have allegedly helped install phone-tapping equipment and servers imported from Israel on the premises of a local school. Another policeman Radha Kishan Rao has also been made an accused in this case. Look-out notice has been issued for them also. Several other Telangana police officers are being investigated in connection with this case. Apart from these, SPs Bhujanga Rao and Thirupathanna, and Deputy SP Praneeth Rao have already been arrested. Police said Bhujanga Rao and Tirupathanna, arrested last week, have confessed to illegally conducting surveillance of private individuals and destroying evidence.

The individuals whose gadgets were monitored include Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and members of the BJP and Congress as well as people from former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s BRS. There are also reports that Telugu actors and businessmen were also monitored and many of them were blackmailed. According to sources, more than one lakh phone calls were tapped.
