India 1-2 Afghanistan, India lost a match at home against Afghanistan in the World Cup qualifiers match. Indian Striker Sunil Chhetri scored a goal in the 38th minute from Plenty Spot. In the second half of the match, Rahmat Akbari scored an equalizer in the 70th minute.

In the 88th minute, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu played a foul at the Afghani Striker and the referee pointed towards the plenty spot. Sharif Mukhammad scored from plenty Spot and completed the comeback for his team. Indian fans and players saw disappointment in Indira Gandhi Stadium. Afghanistan coach Ashley Westwood picked Ovays Azizi as a first-choice goalkeeper. Zohib Islam Amiri and Sharif Mukhammad as center backs. Habibulla Askar is right side back and Mahboob Hanifi is left side back. Zelfy Nazary and Rahmat Akbari are playing in the Mid-field. Taufee Skandari is right-wing and Mosawer Ahadi is left-wing. First Half

In the early minutes of the match Indian team pressed hard to win the ball. In the third minute, Sunil Chhetri played a pass to Liston Colaco who played passed to Brandon Fernandes who crossed the ball with his right foot and found Sunil Chhetri who took a left-footed shot and forced Ovays Azizi to make a save and Manvir Singh had a rebound but he flies the ball over the net.

In the 36th minute of the match, Manvir Singh crossed the ball from the right flank for Sunil Chhetri but Zohib Islam Amiri intercepted the ball with his hand. The referee showed him a yellow card and pointed towards the plenty spot. In the 38th minute of the match, Sunil Chhetri scored the first goal of this match from a plenty spot.

In the 41st minute of the match, Afghanistan was on the attack, Mosawer Ahadi tried a shot from the right. Ahadi’s right-footed curler flies over the net, causing no trouble for Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. The first half ended with India leading this match with a one-goal lead over Afghanistan.

Second Half

Both teams remained the same after they came from a half-time break. Afghanistan now putting more pressure on Indian defence. In the 46th minute of the match, Taufee Skandari’s shot was blocked by the Indian defense and Rahmat Akbari tried his luck but the ball went wide from the target.

In the 48th minute of the match, Brandon Fernandes played a lobbed pass to Manvir Singh who had a chance but in the final third Ovays Azizi stopped him from scoring the goal. In the 70th minute, Afghanistan had a counter-attack with three men in the final third, Rahmat Akbari took a shot from outside the box and took a deflection from Rahul Bheke’s legs went in the net Afghanistan was back on level terms in this match.


In the 87th minute, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu played a foul inside the box on an Afghanistan Striker, and the referee pointed towards the plenty Spot. In the 88th minute of the match, Sharif Mukhammad scored a goal from the plenty Spot and Afghanistan turned this match around they were leading 2-1 in this match.

Indian team tried their best but Afghanistan held on to their lead. The referee blew a full-time whistle. The match ended with India 1-2 Afghanistan scoreline.
