Munawar Faruqui is a prominent Indian stand-up comedian and rapper. They were among a group of persons detained during a police raid at a hookah parlor in Fort in south Mumbai last night.

Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui and 13 others were detained in connection with a raid on a hookah bar in Fort area last night. A case has been registered against him. After interrogation, all the accused were released.

Munawar Faruqui is a prominent Indian stand-up comedian and rapper. They were among a group of persons detained during a police raid at a hookah parlor in Fort in south Mumbai last night. This raid was conducted on the basis of secret information received by the police. Authorities had detained more than a dozen people, including Munawar Faruqui, on suspicion of smoking tobacco-based hookah under the guise of herbal. However, he was later released after questioning.


The raid was conducted by Mumbai Police’s Social Service branch at 10:30pm on Tuesday at a hookah parlour in Bora Bazar, the official further said, adding that the operation continued till 5am on Wednesday.

Talking about this, an officer said, “Our team had received information about the use of tobacco in the guise of herbal following which the hookah bar was raided. We have called in experts to determine the nature of the substances used.” Farooqui was also among those detained.”

According to the police, after interrogating all the detained accused, a case has been registered against them. According to the information, everyone has been released at present. Recently Munawar Farooqui has won Bigg Boss Season 17. After winning this show, his popularity has increased further.

Police raided an illegal hookah parlour in the city’s fort district on Tuesday, seizing 4400 in cash and nine hookah pots worth Rs 13,500.

Faruqui and his co-accused have been booked under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), along with the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others).

Soon after the news was out, Elvish Yadav took to X to write a cryptic note for Munnawar Faruqui, he wrote, “Biggboss Jeetne ke baad sabka bura time shuru ho jataa hai kya.”

When asked by a paparazzo how he feels about Elvish getting bail, Munawar Faruqui said, “I know how it feels. Good news hai (its good news). So I’m happy (for Elvish).”

Talking about Elvish’s bail, his lawyer, Prashant Rathi, said in an encounter wih journalists that Yadav had been granted bail on the condition that he furnish two sureties of Rs 50,000 apiece. He added that the honourable court had approved the bail, but Elvish would be released following a few procedural formalities. Rathi further claimed that Elvish was framed in the case because no proof of the NDPS Act was seized from him. He also added that the other two arrested men, Vinay Yadav and Ishwar Yadav, had been given bail.
