Sonam Wangchuk ends 21-day climate fast, now women will take charge in Ladakh.

Sonam Wangchuk said that now women will start the fast and after that it will be taken forward with others. This fast will continue until their demands are met.

Environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk ended her 21-day climate fast in Leh on Tuesday. He broke his fast while the little girls drank juice. During this, thousands of people reached the protest site and raised slogans in support of the demands.

Sonam Wangchuk said that now women will start the fast and after that it will be taken forward with others. This fast will continue until their demands are met. The movement is going on for including Ladakh in the Sixth Schedule and giving it statehood and other demands. In this context, Wangchuk kept a fast for 21 days. His fast, which started on March 6, ended on March 26. During this time he got support from people from all over the country.

Sonam Wangchuk was quoted as saying by news agency PTI , “The first phase of the hunger strike is ending today but this is not the end of the agitation.”.

Wangchuk, who is also an education reformist, told the news agency that the end of the hunger strike is the beginning of the new phase of the ongoing agitation.

“We will continue our struggle (in support of our demands). The gathering of 10,000 people at the venue and participation of over 60,000 others over the past 20 days are a testimony of the people’s aspirations,” he said.


At the same time, in Kargil also, a fast is being conducted by the Kargil Democratic Alliance. There too a large number of people are joining the fast. After Sonam Wangchuk, now women representatives of Buddhist, Muslim (Shia, Sunni) and Christian organizations are going to start a fast in Leh.

Veteran actor of Bollywood and South Film Industry, Prakash Raj reached Leh in the Union Territory of Ladakh on the occasion of his birthday. Here, he met environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk and other agitators who were on fast unto death for various demands including full statehood and supported their movement. The actor said that the people of Ladakh are fighting not just for themselves but for the welfare of every countryman.

Prakash Raj said that this movement is not just for Ladakh, not just for Sonam Wangchuk, but it is for the interest of the entire country. He said that the struggle being waged here to save water, environment and natural resources is not for one person, but for the entire public. The government is not fulfilling the demands of the people of Ladakh to benefit some capitalists.

Sonam Wangchuk’s fast entered its 21st day on Tuesday. On this occasion, Wangchuk said that 350 people with him stayed here even at night in minus 10 degrees Celsius and slept here. Around five thousand people reached here during the day. This country needs honest, visionary and intelligent politicians, not just short-sighted characterless politicians

Sonam Wangchuk has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill the promises made in the BJP’s election manifesto to the people of Ladakh. Wangchuk said that Modi is a devotee of Lord Ram and he should follow his teachings even if it takes his life or promise.

Wangchuk said, in the last 20 days, about 60,000 of the 3 lakh residents of Ladakh have participated in the hunger strike, displaying their pain, but there was no word from this government.

He said, ‘We are trying to remind and awaken the consciousness of our Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to protect the fragile ecosystem of the Himalayan mountains in Ladakh and the unique indigenous tribal cultures that flourish here.’
