Qatar defeated Tajikistan 1-0 in the AFC Asia Cup at Al-Bayt Stadium. The host was in total control and delivered a dominant performance in front of the home fans. Visitors did not play at their best they delivered a very lackluster performance and were beaten comprehensively by the home side. Qatar won 2 out of 2 matches in their group. Qatar is at the top of its group with six points and qualified to play in the round of sixteen AFC Asia Cup.

Qatar coach Tintín Márquez started with Meshaal Barsham first-choice goalkeeper for the team: Tarek Salman and Lucas Mendes playing in Centre center-back positions. Bassam Al Rawi plays as a right side-back and Mohammed Waad plays as a left side-back. Ahmed Fatehi, Moustafa Tarek Mashal, and Jassem Gaber Abdulsallam play in the mid-field. Akram Afif plays as the left-wing forward and Ismail Mohamad plays as the right-wing forward. Almoez Ali is playing in a center-forward position. Qatar coach Tintín Márquez selected a 4-3-3 formation in this match.


Tajikistan coach Petar Šegrt started with Rustam Yatimov in the goal. Vakhdat Khanonov and Zoir Dzhuraboyev were playing in defense as center-back. Manuchekhr Safarov plays in the right side-back and Akhtam Nazarov in the left side-back position. Parvizdzhon Umarbayev and Alisher Shukurov playing as centre-midfielder. Amadoni Kamolov plays in the right wing and Ehson Panjshanbe plays in the left wing. Rustam Soirov and Alisher Dzhalilov playing in the center-forward position. Tajikistan coach Petar Šegrt used a 4-4-2 formation for this match.

First Half

Qatar starts the game with the positive mindset players are clicking with each other. Crowd supports for the home team is incredible. Qatar Leads the Match 1-0. In 34th Minute Qatar demanded a plenty for a handball by Vakhdat Khanonov Referee checked in the VAR system and plenty not given. In 42th minute, Akram Afif Tried a curling shot Rustam Yatimov makes saves Almoez Ali has a chance in a rebound, but it was blocked by the Zoir Dzhuraboyev. In extra time Akram Afif takes a shot from the edge of the box but it sails over the bar. First half ended with Qatar has 1-0 lead over Tajikistan.

Second-Half

In the second half, Tajikistan wants to control the pace of the game they are keeping the position of the ball at the beginning of this half. In the 47th Minute, Bassam Al Rawi missed time back pass almost ended up in a goal Rustam Soirov put pressure on the defense, and the keeper almost lost the ball but, in the end, Rustam Soirov did not control the ball it went out for the goal kick. In the 56th minute, Akram Afif finds Almoez Ali, but Rustam Yatimov blocks in time.

In the 81st minute, Referee showed a direct red card to Amadoni Kamolov who tried to hit shoes in Ahmed Ali Ganehi’s (substitute) mouth now Tajikistan needs to play with the 10 men. Qatar dominated the procession and created more chances than 10 men Tajikistan. The match ends Qatar won with a 1-0 scoreline Qatar is Qualified for the round of 16 in the AFC Asia Cup. Qatar took 12 shots of which 6 were on target as compared to Tajikistan who had 5 shots and 3 were on target. Qatar had 60% of the possession in this match. Qatar will face China in the next match on 22 January.
