DCP (Northeast) Joy Tirkey said police received a PCR call at 11.42 am about two people sustaining injuries in a firing incident on Meet Nagar flyover. He said ASI Dinesh Sharma, posted in the Special Branch, was on his motorcycle while the second person, Amit Kumar, 30, was driving his scooter at the time.

According to police sources, the ASI was shot point-blank in the chest by the accused, Mukesh, while a stray bullet hit Amit. They were rushed to GTB Hospital where the policeman was declared dead on arrival; Amit sustained bullet injuries to his waist.
“After the shooting, the accused got into an autorickshaw but the driver, Mehmood, 35, protested. The accused fired at him too, but the latter jumped out and escaped without injury… After that, it appears Mukesh shot himself (dead). We found two bullet wounds to his head,” said the DCP.
Tirkey said the ASI and Mukesh knew each other well: “It seems Mukesh had taken some money from Sharma and a dispute had broken out between them over Mukesh returning the money.”
