The story is simple, but its making is interesting. Mahendra Agarwal, a boy from a middle-class family, hides his desires in his cricket kit and starts managing his father’s shop. If the shop is doing well in a city like Jaipur, then a girl comes in contact who has passed MBBS and is doing doctorate. Name, Mahima Agarwal. The family members call both Mahendra and Mahima as Mahi. Mahima is good at cricket. When Mahendra comes to know about this, he encourages him to leave medicine and enter the field and he takes his wife towards the destination which he himself could not reach.
Sharan Sharma, who learned the tricks of cinema during the making of films like ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, showed his ability as a director in his very first film ‘Gunjan Saxena The Kargil Girl’. The film ‘Mr. and Mrs. Mahi’ is a continuation of his attraction towards women-oriented films. He gets along well with Jhanvi. In the previous film, he had made Pankaj Tripathi as Jhanvi’s support system as her father, this time Rajkumar Rao is doing the same work as her husband.
There is nothing special for Rajkumar Rao to do in the film ‘Mr. and Mrs. Mahi’. He plays a defeated character and the entire thrust of this character is now to act as a catalyst in the actions that take the heroine of the story to her zenith. His previous film ‘Srikanth’ is still running in theatres. His development in acting has been good so far.
Kumud Mishra has left his impact as a strict father. Rajesh Sharma as Coach Shukla also gives good support to the film. Purnendu Bhattacharya and Zarina Wahab have been amazing actors, but as per their abilities, their roles here are of short duration.
The background of the film ‘Mr. and Mrs. Mahi’ is Jaipur and Anay Goswami has captured the lazy mornings and sparkling nights of the Pink City in outdoor shooting. Even in the indoor shooting of the film, his camera composition is good according to the geography of the scenes. Nitin Baid’s editing is tight. But, the same cannot be said about the songs and music of the film. There is not a single song in the film that can explain the entire spirit of the film.
