Arvind Kejriwal granted bail by Supreme Court

Arvind Kejriwal granted bail by Supreme Court; The Supreme Court on Friday (September 13, 2024) ordered Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to be released on regular bail in a case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to the now-scrapped excise policy.

Justice Kant barred Mr. Kejriwal from visiting the office of the Chief Minister and the Delhi Secretariat or sign official files unless it was required and necessary for obtaining clearance/approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. These two conditions were adopted from the July 12 order of the apex court granting the Chief Minister bail in a connected money laundering case investigated by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED).

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped excise policy. On June 26, the CBI formally arrested him in a corruption case linked to the alleged scam. The Supreme Court had granted him interim bail in the money laundering case on July 12 and he is currently in judicial custody in the CBI’s corruption case. Of the 40 accused in the cases linked, only two —Kejriwal and businessman Amandeep Singh Dhall — remain behind bars.
