Cabinet Ministers Portfolios Allocation: Shivraj becomes Agriculture Minister; the status of seniors remains intact

Cabinet Ministers Portfolios Allocation: 24 hours after the swearing in of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Council of Ministers, the portfolios were finally divided. The responsibility of important ministries has been kept with BJP ministers only.

The first cabinet meeting of the new government chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi took place on Monday evening. Soon after this the division of departments was announced. First of all, let us talk about the ministers who are part of CCS i.e. the Committee on Security of the Union Cabinet. There are four ministries – Home, Defence, Finance and External Affairs. No changes have been made in these. That means Amit Shah will remain the Home Minister, Rajnath Singh the Defense Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman the Finance Minister and S Jaishankar the Foreign Minister.

Apart from the four ministers included in CCS, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman and S Jaishankar, Nitin Gadkari is the fifth most senior minister. There has been no change in his responsibilities either. He has become the Minister of Road Transport and Highways for the third consecutive time. Earlier it was being told that TDP, the most important constituent of NDA and having 16 MPs, wants the Road Transport Ministry. However, Gadkari’s responsibility has been retained. Gadkari has become the only senior minister in the Prime Minister’s team, in whose responsibility no change has been seen since 2014.
