College girl attacked with sharp weapon at Palampur bus stop; referred to PGI
A surprising incident has come to light in Palampur, Kangra where a young man attacked a student returning from studying in a private college with a sharp weapon. The accused attacked the victim 10 times one after the other. The attack was carried out in broad daylight among pedestrians. After which the eyewitnesses beat the accused severely and handed him over to the police.
The injured student was taken to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College and Hospital, Tanda.
From there she has been referred to PGI Chandigarh. Police have arrested the accused youth Sumit Kumar, resident of Masal under Nagrota Bagwan assembly constituency. Akshay Singh, the young man who accompanied the girl, told that she is the daughter of a poor family and her father is a painter and mother is a housewife. She is doing MA in Political Science from Palampur and is currently a first year student. Sanaya, admitted in PGI, is worried about her studies. On Sunday, she told her family that I have a class test on Monday and should call Meenakshi madam that I will not be able to come for the test.

The student, resident of a village in Sulah assembly constituency, studying in a private college in Palampur, was going to the new bus stand, Palampur, to go home on Saturday. During this time, the accused, who was waiting in ambush on the stairs of the commercial premises of the bus stand, took out a crowbar from his bag and attacked the student. The accused is a multi-task worker in the Public Works Department, Nagrota Bagwan. The accused was drunk at the time of the incident.
(Himachal Police) has started investigating the matter. Superintendent of Police Kangra Shalini Agnihotri said that the accused is being interrogated.
He had gone to her relative’s wedding 6 years ago. At the same time, he had seen the victim at the wedding and since then both of them started talking through calls. After about 3 years, it came to light that the victim was talking to another boy.
The girl had blocked his number for the last 15-20 days and was not talking. During this time, even on 20th April, the accused youth wanted to talk to the girl. During this time, he reached Palampur bus stand and wanted to talk to the girl but she refused. During this, he lost his temper and attacked with a sharp weapon.
