Delhi court notes home meals of Arvind Kejriwal deviating from prescribed diet after ED’s Mango argument, CM requested to consult his personal doctor.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal rubbished the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) claim that he was eating mangoes to increase his sugar level to get bail on medical grounds. He said that out of 48 meals sent from home to jail, only three mangoes were sent and that too in the form of pills. Kejriwal’s lawyer said that ED is acting cheaply by giving such ridiculous arguments in front of the trial court.

The court said it would investigate whether Kejriwal had followed the diet chart approved by the court while accepting home-cooked food in judicial custody. The court reserved its decision for now. The court said the verdict would be pronounced on Monday.

Before Justice Kaveri Baweja, Kejriwal’s lawyer said that out of 48 home-made meals sent to the jail, only three mangoes were sent. The allegation is that I am eating mangoes…out of 48 meals sent from home; only three times there were mangoes. No mangoes were sent after April 8.

Senior advocate AM Singhvi, appearing for Kejriwal, said that mangoes have been made like sugar pills. The sugar level in them is much lower than that of brown rice or white rice. He said that the ED is behaving frivolously by giving such ridiculous arguments before the trial court.

CM kejriwal said I use only sugar-free in my tea. How trivial, political and ridiculous can ED be? Its statements are completely false and malicious. Just because you have a lot of influence in the media, you are able to publish what I am doing. As for Aaloo Puri, this food was once sent during a puja. We have had democracy here for 75 years but I am seeing this kind of approach for the first time.

ED alleges that Arvind Kejriwal is deliberately eating mangoes and sweets in jail to increase his blood sugar level to get bail. Advocate Zoheb Hossain, appearing for the ED, had made this allegation on Thursday while replying to Kejriwal’s plea for regular medical check-up to monitor his sugar level.

ED alleges that Arvind Kejriwal is deliberately eating mangoes and sweets in jail to increase his blood sugar level to get bail. Zoheb Hossain remained firm on ED’s concerns even in today’s hearing. He said that yesterday my request was that the contents of his diet do not match with the diet prescribed by the doctor. There is no reference to sweets or sweet fruits in the diet chart. The diet appears to be very regulated and strict.

Therefore, there is a direct connection, argued Hossain, that there is an alarming increase in his sugar levels and his diet.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal today withdrew his old application and filed a fresh petition seeking permission to meet a doctor for fifteen minutes every day to monitor his diabetes and fluctuations in blood sugar levels. He has also prayed that his wife Sunita Kejriwal be allowed to be present during these medical examinations.

Singhvi said that it is a well-known fact that Kejriwal is suffering from diabetes. He is being given insulin every day for 12 years.

Kejriwal said an insulin reversal program had started in February, long before my arrest. This will have to be monitored very closely. It is normal that I am unable to follow the program in jail. I have repeatedly said that only my doctor can monitor this closely. My only request is that I be allowed to consult my doctor.
