Delhi Police Special Cell files first chargesheet of 9000 pages in NewsClick case. Special Cell of Delhi Police has today filed the first charge sheet in the Newsclick case. The special team had reached Patiala House Court with a charge sheet of 8000 pages. In this case, Newsclick chief Prabir Purkayastha was also presented in the court. The charge sheet has been filed before Additional Sessions Judge Hardeep Kaur.
Information about the seized electronic devices is given in the charge sheet. Police had seized about 480 electronic devices in 100 raids. The police had registered a case against the founder of the institute in August 2023 and raids were conducted at several places simultaneously in the month of October.Newsclick is alleged to have received funding of approximately Rs 38 crore from abroad. It is recorded in the FIR that American millionaire Naval Rai Singham was continuously funding Newsclick. After registering the FIR, the Special Cell investigated these allegations and now the police have filed a charge sheet.

On August 5, The New York Times published an article with the headline “An American tech mogul tied to a global web of Chinese propaganda”, alleging that Newsclick was part of a global network receiving funds from American millionaire Singham, whose Allegedly close ties to Chinese state media figures.
Citing the 5 New York Times report, Union Minister Anurag Thakur had asserted that there is collusion between Congress, China and NewsClick and they are pushing the agenda of the Communist Party of China through the website. The New York Times report was rejected by Newsclick in a statement issued two days later and called the allegations baseless
