Effect of Bharat Bandh in some states including Bihar, UP, Rajasthan, Today 21 organizations across the country have called Bharat Bandh against the Supreme Court’s decision on creamy layer in SC-ST reservation. It seems to be having a mixed effect. Save Reservation for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Sangharsh Committee has taken this decision. In view of the decision of Bharat Bandh, the government has given instructions to take necessary steps to maintain law and order. However, there was a lot of chaos during the bandh in Patna, the capital of Bihar.

The police also lathicharged the protesters. Bandh supporters took to the streets in many other cities of Bihar. The effect of Bharat Bandh was visible in many areas of Rajasthan including Jaipur and Ajmer.
The one-day Bharat Bandh called by some organizations on Wednesday over community-based reservation had no visible impact in Assam. Schools, offices and business establishments across the state functioned normally and a staff was in full attendance. Bharat Bandh did not have any significant impact in Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday.
However, protests took place at some places. While essential services were kept out of the scope of the bandh, public transport services operated normally and shops also remained open. Police lathi charged people protesting in support of Bharat Bandh in Patna. Independent MP Pappu Yadav took to the streets in support of Bharat Bandh. Apart from this, Nagina MP Chandrashekhar also demonstrated.

Major markets in many cities including the capital Jaipur as well as Ajmer were closed and the traffic on the roads was less than on other days. The administration has announced holiday as a precautionary measure in schools and colleges in many districts including Jaipur. This ‘bandh’ started at 9 am and affected many districts of the state.
Shops did not open in major markets. People faced problems due to non-operation of roadways buses at many places. Relatively fewer vehicles were also seen on the roads of Jaipur. Activists of organizations calling for ‘bandh’ took out rallies. Police have deployed additional forces to avert any untoward incident.
A goods train was stopped during the bandh in Badhwan in Surendra Nagar district of Gujarat. The agitators stopped the goods train near Badsar Gate of the city. As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot. The police are trying to understand the agitators. Local leaders are trying to stop it by protesting. The administration is trying to ensure that there is no damage to property under any circumstances.
