Election of new PM in Pakistan on March 3,The suspense regarding the new Prime Minister of Pakistan is about to end. After two days it will be known who will be the next Prime Minister of the neighbouring country.

PM election is to be held in the National Assembly of Pakistan on March 3. Nominations for the post of PM have to be filled by March 2. Shahbaz Sharif is in the fray from Nawaz Sharif’s party Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), who is supported by Bilawal Bhutto’s Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Even the party of jailed Imran Khan is not ready to accept defeat. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has made Omar Ayub Khan its candidate.

However, there is full hope that Shahbaz will be successful in winning the elections easily.

In the election of Prime Minister, Bilawal Bhutto’s party is helping PMLN in making Shehbaz Sharif the PM. Both the parties (PMLN and PPP) are claiming that they have enough support. Earlier, Shahbaz had also been the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2022. This was the time when Imran Khan was ousted from power. According to the deal between PMLN and PPP, Bilawal’s party will help in making Shahbaz the PM. In return, Nawaz’s party will support Asif Ali Zardari to become the President. Zardari was previously the President of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013.

There are 266 seats in the National Assembly of Pakistan on which voting takes place. However, in this election only 265 seats were contested, now any party that wants to form the government in Pakistan needs 133 assembly members. The thing to note here is that no party has got absolute majority in this election. Therefore, now two big political parties of Pakistan are going to form a coalition government.

If we talk about elections, this time 93 candidates supporting Imran Khan have won. Nawaz Sharif’s PMLN is at second position, which has won 75 seats. Bilawal Bhutto’s PPP is at third position, which has got 54 seats. MQM has won 17 seats. MQM has won 17 seats. To keep Imran Khan’s PTI out of power, PML-N and PPP have formed an alliance with 4 small parties.

Apart from the Prime Minister, elections for Speaker and Deputy Speaker are also to be held in Pakistan. This voting will take place on March 1 only. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq from PML-N and Malik Mohammad Amir Dogra from PTI have filed their nominations for the post of Speaker. The name of Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah from the ruling party and Junaid Akbar from the opposition has been decided for the post of Deputy Speaker.

Election of new PM in Pakistan on March 3

The National Assembly (NA) Secretariat has released the timetable for the prime ministerial election to be held in Pakistan on March 3, as per ARY News.

Newly sworn-in MNAs will participate in the voting process for the prime minister’s position on Sunday.


Nomination papers can be obtained from the legislation department, with candidates instructed to submit them to the NA Secretariat.

Notably, Shehbaz Sharif has been nominated by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and other allies, while the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has named Omar Ayub as its candidate.

According to the schedule issued by the NA Secretariat, aspirants for the premiership can submit their nomination papers by 2 pm on March 2. The final list of candidates will be issued following scrutiny of the nomination papers.

The 16th National Assembly commenced its proceedings earlier in the day, with newly elected MNAs taking their oaths administered by Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf. The session, scheduled for 10 am, commenced after 11 am amid a turbulent atmosphere, with PTI-backed lawmakers aligned with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), encircling the speaker’s rostrum.
