Farmer union leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said that the further strategy of the movement will be announced on February 29. Along with this, the farmer leader demanded an FIR on the death of young farmer Shubhakaran Singh. Even though the United Kisan Morcha has stopped the farmers’ Delhi Chalo march for a few days. However, in the meantime, the farmers will continue their protest. Farmer leader Pandher said that we have lost our young farmer. We have decided that we will take out a candle march on 24th February. On February 25, we will hold a seminar at the Shambhu and Khinauri border and burn the effigy of WTO. Farmer leader Pandher further said that we will hold a meeting with farmer unions on 27th February and then on 29th February we will announce our further steps.

Farmers led by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) observed a ‘Black Friday’ today, February 23, following the death of a farmer at Khanauri Border crossing in Punjab’s Sangrur district during the ongoing protests, said Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait.

The protesting farmers halted their ‘Dilli Chalo.’ march for two days to take stock of the ongoing situation on the Shambhu border in Haryana and further decisions will be taken accordingly, the general secretary of the Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee.

However, the family and farmer leaders are adamant on not performing the last rites of Shubhakaran until an FIR is registered against the murder accused. There is tension regarding this. Today, on 24th February, farmers will take out a candle march in the memory of Shubhakaran Singh.

Central government ministers and farmer leaders have been holding meetings even before the Delhi march of the farmers’ movement.
