It seems that many politicians have made this sentence- “will do anything to win in the elections” their victory mantra. SP’s female leader Maria Alam Khan in Farrukhabad district of UP appealed for vote jihad against BJP while campaigning in Muslim dominated areas. While addressing a public meeting in support of the party candidate, Maria said that in the current situation, it has become very important for the minority community to do ‘Vote Jihad’

Maria Alam Khan is the niece of Salman Khurshid. Although Khurshid is in Congress party and he is in SP. This time there is an alliance between SP and Congress in UP. Salman Khurshid has been contesting elections from Farrukhabad seat. However, this time under the alliance this seat has gone to SP.

That’s why Khurshid is silent under compulsion. Speaking at a public meeting organized in support of the SP candidate, Maria Alam Khan said, ‘People say that democracy and the Constitution are in danger in the country. But I say that humanity is in danger. In the current environment, humanity is under attack in the country.

The SP leader further said, ‘If you want to save the country, its beauty and ‘Ganga-Jamuni’ culture, then vote very wisely without coming under anyone’s influence. Vote Jihad together without making any noise, using intelligence and without getting emotional. Now only vote jihad is the only way left to remove this Sangh government from the country.


Salman Khurshid was also present in this public meeting as the chief guest. When he was asked about the word ‘Jihad’, it has nothing to do with religion but it symbolizes a state of symbolic struggle against adverse circumstances. He said that Jihad means fighting against a situation. Giving a evasive reply to Maria Alam’s ‘vote jihad’ statement, Khurshid said that her intention might have been to conduct vote jihad to protect the Constitution.

A case was registered against senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Maria Alam Khan under sections 188 and 295A of the IPC at Kayamganj police station in Fatehgarh district. It has been alleged in the FIR that the leaders appealed to the minority community for ‘vote jihad’ to remove the BJP government.
