HC put a stay on bail, The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has challenged in the Delhi High Court the trial court’s order granting bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case related to Delhi’s alleged liquor policy scam. The High Court has agreed to consider the petition seeking urgent hearing on ED’s appeal.
The High Court said that the file related to the case will come before the bench in 10-15 minutes and the order of the lower court will remain on hold until the hearing is completed. At the same time, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has cornered the Central Government for going to the High Court without the copy of the ED’s lower court order. He posted on ‘X’ and said, “Look at the hooliganism of Modi government, the trial court’s order has not come yet.”
Rouse Avenue Court had granted regular bail to Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday. Kejriwal has been granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. Kejriwal was arrested in March in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise scam. He may be released from Tihar Jail on Friday. Rouse Avenue-based special judge Nyaya Bindu conducted the hearing for two days before pronouncing the verdict on Thursday. The judge had indicated on Wednesday that she did not want to keep the case pending indefinitely.
He had asked all the lawyers to keep their arguments brief. When Kejriwal was granted bail, the lawyers appearing for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) demanded the court to give two days’ time to sign the bail bond. On this the court said that it will not impose any stay on the bail. The bail bonds will be presented before the duty magistrate on Friday.
No relief for #ArvindKejriwal
The government is right for calling this order perverse. I’m glad that the agencies moved quickly…The HC looked at the merits and the bail has been stayed…: @Tushar15

Earlier, on May 10, the Supreme Court had granted interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal for 21 days for the Lok Sabha election campaign. The Supreme Court had directed him to surrender again in jail on June 2, a day after the last phase of voting ended. Along with this, the court had also imposed many other conditions on Kejriwal including a ban on going to the Chief Minister’s office. Let us inform that Kejriwal was arrested by ED on March 21, 2024 in the alleged scam case in Delhi’s Excise Policy 2021-22 (which was canceled after the controversy).
