India is beaten by Australia 0-2 in the AFC Asia Cup at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium—India opened the AFC Asia campaign with the loss. The Australian team is the favorite to win the match somehow, they were unable to score in the first half of the game but in the second half, they fired all the cylinders putting immense pressure on the Indian defense and were able to break the deadlock early in the second half. The Indian team lost concentration after conceding the goal Australian team took benefit from it doubled their lead and started their campaign with three points. The Australian side is one of the top contenders to win the whole tournament.

Indian coach Igor Štimac picked Gurpreet Singh Sandhu as a first-choice goalkeeper. Sandesh Jhingan and Rahul Bheke as centre back. Nikhil Poojary is right side back and Subhasish Bose is left side back. Deepak Tangri and Lalengmawia Ralte Playing in the Mid-field. Manvir Singh is right-wing and Lallianzuala Chhangte is left-wing. Suresh Singh Wangjam is playing behind the striker Sunil Chhetri.

The Australian team was bombarded in the final third with lots of crosses Indian defensive unit was tested by them, but they were unable to create anything special. In the 16th minute, Nikhil Poojary delivers a cross in the box Sunil Chhetri meets the ball in a flash with his head. But the effort is not on target.

Indian Goalkeeper’s error almost cost them, but Gurpreet Singh Sandhu somehow saved the shots from Connor Metcalfe and cover-up his mistake from the goal kick. Men in yellow dominate the possession but they are unable to put the ball in the net somehow Indian defense keeps them alive in this match. Suresh Singh Wangjam had a chance before a half time to put India in the leading position but his weak shot from the distance was an easy save for the Australian Goalkeeper. Half-time ended with the score line of 0-0. Australia with clearly the better attacking in the first half but Igor Stimac’s men have shown some gritty defending to keep the match goalless at the break.

Second Half

Graham Arnold’s team came after the break with more intent to score the goal. In the 50th minute, a cross comes in from the left and Gurpreet comes out to collect the ball. He gets the touch but cannot hold on to the ball and it falls straight to Irvine. Keeping his calm, Irvine slots the ball inside the net to give a well-deserved lead to Australia. Indian striker Sunil Chhetri is barely involved in the game nothing is created by his teammates.

After conceding the first goal the Indian team lost their concentration there is so much panic in defense and the 73rd minute substitute Jordan Bos scored with his first touch of the game after coming on as a substitute. McGree showed good strength to make an excellent run and get inside the India box. He spots Bos free at the far post and finds him with the pass for the latter to score with an easy finish. Australia leads with two goals Indian team struggling to create anything there is complete domination of the Australian team. India suffers a loss with a 2-0 scoreline.

India will face Uzbekistan on 18 January and Australia also have a match with Syria on 18 January.
