On Wednesday Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren arrested by ED in a land scam case, he was questioned for about 7 hours by Enforcement Directorate officials. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP Mahua Maji confirmed the arrest of Hemant Soren.
Afterward, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren submitted his letter of resignation to Governor C.P Radhakrishnan at the Raj Bhawan in Ranchi.
The ED officials had reached out to Soren at his Delhi residence for interrogation on Monday. The law enforcement agency also seized two cars and ₹36 lakh but did not find the JMM leader.
The ED team camped at his residence for nearly 13 hours and found cash and incriminating documents during its searches.

After the arrest of CM Hemant Soren, JMM party was little perplexed about whom to choose the next Chief Minister of Jharkhand, finally the decision is made and Champai Soren is the 7th Chief minister of Jharkhand.
While the ruling JMM led- coalition proposed the name of senior leader and State Transport Minister, Champai Soren. However, everybody was anticipating that Hemant Soren’s wife could be next chief minister of Jharkhand.
JMM heads a coalition government in the state, including Congress. The decision on a new CM was taken by JMM MLAs in a meeting, after which they went to the Raj Bhavan to apprise Governor CP Radhakrishnan of their decision.
We have chosen Champai Soren as the leader of the Legislative Party. We came to the Raj Bhawan to request the Governor for the oath ceremony,” JMM leader and state minister Banna Gupta told reporters.
Hemant Soren lodged FIR against ED
Earlier in the day, Soren had lodged an FIR against senior Enforcement Directorate personnel at the SC/ST police station here over searches conducted by the agency at his Delhi residence, officials said on Wednesday.
Soren alleged that the ED conducted the search operation at his residence in the national capital to “harass and malign him and his entire community”, the officials said, quoting the FIR.

Soren’s party Jharkhand Mukti Morcha had slammed the ED for visiting his Delhi residence and had asked if the ED team had planted the cash found there. The JMM alleged that the Jharkhand chief minister was being treated like a criminal and accused the Centre of indulging in “open hooliganism” with the help of central agencies.
