Arvind Kejriwal has challenged in the Supreme Court the decision in which the Delhi High Court had legalized his arrest and judicial custody by the ED in an alleged money laundering case related to the liquor policy matter. The Enforcement Directorate had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court last Wednesday against this petition of Kejriwal. The investigating agency, in its affidavit, had claimed that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested after massive tampering with evidence.

According to ED, around 170 mobile phones were destroyed after irregularities in Delhi’s new liquor policy came to light and during the investigation of the case. In the affidavit, the ED also highlighted that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief was evading questioning despite being summoned nine times. The central probe agency, through its affidavit in the apex court, clarified that Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest came after he repeatedly ignored the summons of the Enforcement Directorate and failed to obtain protection from the Delhi High Court.

The Enforcement Directorate told the top court that Kejriwal’s arrest, regardless of his stature and position, is based on sufficient evidence, Also, it does not violate the principles of free and fair elections. Kejriwal has raised questions on the timing of his arrest. It has been alleged by the Delhi CM that he was arrested to stop him from campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections.
