The trailer, which gives a strong Knives Out vibe, begins with the murder of a magician on the premises of the Royal Delhi Club, frequented by the Delhi elites, leading to the entry of ACP Bhavani Singh (Pankaj). Staying true to its noir roots, it goes on to show femme fatales and eccentrics with jarring visuals of blood on snow-white cats and pieces of furniture.

While Sara’s Bambi plays Vijay’s love interest in the film, Karishma seems to play an actress who has been splashed with red on the set of a film. As Inspector’s Singh interrogates the characters, he is disturbed by their disconnection from reality and continues to look for an extraordinary clue amidst the ordinary course of events.

“The truth is that most killers are not savages; they are ordinary men like you and me”, we hear in Singh’s voiceover as the video ends with a close-up shot of Karisma, shooting a scene with blood streaming down her face.

Produced by Maddock Films, Murder Mubarak is slated to drop on Netflix on March 15. The film marks Karisma’s return to films since her 2012 movie Dangerous Ishhq, though she already made her OTT debut with the 2020 web series Mentalhood.

At the film’s trailer launch, Karisma spoke about being selective with her film choices.

She said, “To be very honest, I do selective work out of choice. I like to be comfortable. I am lucky and thankful to be in a position where I can say yes or no. Hopefully, I will do more work, but it depends on what I feel. I want to do interesting roles, literally something which will make me leave home. I have been lucky to have played very unusual characters over the years, so I really need to be motivated and excited to go to a set.”

Talking about what made Murder Mubarak stand out, Karisma said, “Homi is an old dear friend. We went to school together. He is a quirky maker. When I heard the script, my first reaction was that I have to be part of this unusual film.”
