India’s star shuttler Lakshya Sen defeated world number three Jonathan Christie of Indonesia 21-18, 21-12 in straight games. With this win, Lakshya has reached the pre-quarterfinals. Lakshya made a tremendous comeback from 8-1 down in the first game against the world number three to level the score at 8-8 and then took an 11-9 lead in the first mid-way break. After this there was a tough competition between the two.


At one point the score was even tied at 18-18. However, Lakshya then controlled his nerves and kept his cool and won 21-18. After winning the first game, Lakshya made a good start in the second game also. Lakshya were again in the lead at the mid-way break. After this, Lakshya won the second game easily by 21-12. This match lasted for 50 minutes. Lakshya won the first game in 28 minutes and the second game in 23 minutes. It was a do or die contest for both the athletes.

Indian female boxer Lovlina Borgohain performed brilliantly in the round of 16 matches won and entered the quarter finals. He won this match unanimously.

Deepika Kumari has reached the pre-quarterfinals of women’s individual archery. Deepika defeated Quinty Roeffen of Netherlands 6-2.

PV Sindhu dominated the proceedings against Kristin Kuuba of Estonia in Badminton. She literally destroyed her opponent in the opening Game and closed it 21-5. Kubba showed signs of comeback but Sindhu soon got things under complete control and won it 21-10.
