Prime Minister Modi reached the capital Kiev on Friday on his visit to the war-torn country Ukraine. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine and during which he will hold talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky on a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Prime Minister traveled from Poland to Kiev by ‘Rail Force One’ train, which took about 10 hours. This is the last leg of Modi’s visit to two countries.
Earlier, PM Modi stressed on adopting diplomacy of dialogue instead of resolving the battlefield in Poland. He said India is ready to support peace efforts in Ukraine and West Asia. PM Modi said India is ready to provide all possible assistance to friendly countries for early restoration of peace and stability in Ukraine and West Asia, as no problem can be solved on the battlefield.
Speaking to the media after talks with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk in Warsaw, Modi said the conflict in Ukraine and West Asia is a matter of deep concern for all of us.
This visit of PM Modi is historic. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister since the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Ukraine in 1992. Amidst the ongoing Ukraine war with Russia, the eyes of the whole world are on this visit of PM. Meanwhile, the UN chief has expressed hope that Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Ukraine will help in ending the war.
UN Secretary-General’s Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said about the PM’s visit that we have seen many heads of state and government visiting the region (and) we hope that all these visits will help us to respect the General Assembly resolutions, international law and territorial integrity. Conformity will bring the conflict closer to an end.
