ISRO and Glavkosmos (a subsidiary of Russian space agency Roscosmos) signed a memorandum of understanding for the training of four astronauts in June 2019. The four astronauts trained at Russia’s Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in February 2020 till March 2021. Currently, training is going on at the Astronaut Training Facility in Bengaluru.

American space agency NASA will also train an Indian astronaut for a mission to the International Space Station by the end of 2024, said the agency’s administrator Bill Nelson, during a visit to Delhi in 2023. The mission will be executed in 2025.

The Gaganyaan mission will demonstrate India’s human spaceflight capability by launching astronauts to an orbit 400 kilometres above the Earth for a 3-day mission. After that, they will be brought back to Earth safely with a landing in Indian sea waters.

PM Modi said that most of the equipment used in Gaganyaan is “Made in India”. What a great coincidence it is that when India is flying to become the top three economy of the world, at the same time Gaganyaan is also giving a new height to India’s space center.

Today Shivshakti Point is introducing the whole world to the power of India. Now at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, we all are witnessing another historical journey. PM Modi said that these are not just four names and four people. These are the four forces carrying 140 crore aspirations into space. He said that after 40 years an Indian is going to go to space, but this time the countdown will be ours and the rocket will also be ours.

He said that I am happy that today I had the privilege of meeting and talking to these astronauts and presenting them to the country. I congratulate these colleagues very much on behalf of the entire country. Today your name has also been added to the success of 21st century India. You are the faith of today’s India. You are the bravery, courage and discipline of today’s India.

You have been working day and night for the last many years to hoist the tricolor flag in space to increase the pride of India. You are a representative of the Bharat Amrit generation, who has the passion to challenge challenges. Yoga plays a big role in your rigorous training module. In this mission, it is important to have coordination between healthy mind and healthy body.

You keep working like this; the good wishes of the country are with you. I also give many best wishes to all the colleagues of ISRO associated with the Gaganyaan project who are engaged in training you. Along with this, I also want to express some concerns. It is possible that some people may find things bitter.

It is a request to the media of the country that the four companions have done spiritual practice continuously for the last few years and without showing their face to the world. There is still a lot left to do. Now they have to go through more difficult tests. Now these four have become celebrities. Now whenever they go anywhere, people will run to get their autograph. People will also want selfies. Media people will also go after the family.

Such an environment will be created for them that it can hinder their spiritual practice. My prayer is that now the real story is starting. The more we support him and support his family, the better it will be for the country. So that they do not get entangled in other things. Therefore, the more we adapt, the more they will benefit. Till now his name had not gone out so the work was going smoothly. But now it has come out. Now we have to support them so that their attention does not deviate anywhere else.
