President Murmu confers the Bharat Ratna to LK Advani at his home in the presence of PM Modi and vice Presidnet Dhankar.
Senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani was today awarded the country’s highest civilian honor Bharat Ratna. President Draupadi Murmu visited his house and honored him with Bharat Ratna. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Home Minister Amit Shah and former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu were also present on this occasion.

News agency ANI said that this decision has been taken due to Advani’s ill health. Prime Minister Modi had announced to give him Bharat Ratna on 3 February. He is the third leader associated with BJP and RSS to receive this honor after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and founding member of BJP Nana Ji Deshmukh.

Lal Krishna Advani is an Indian politician who has been associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), one of the major political parties in India. He was born on (born 8 November 1927) is an Indian politician who served as the 7th Deputy Prime Minister of India from 2002 to 2004. He is one of the co-founders of Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS), a right-wing Hindu nationalist volunteer organisation. He is the longest serving Minister of Home Affairs serving from 1998 to 2004. He is also the longest serving Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He was the prime ministerial candidate of the BJP during the 2009 general election.
In 2015, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan India’s second highest civilian honour and now in 2024, he is conferred with Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.
Bharat Ratna is the country’s highest civilian honour. It is given for national service such as arts, literature, science, public service and sports. The award of Bharat Ratna was started on January 2, 1954 by the President Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
Earlier this honor was given only while alive, but in 1955, Bharat Ratna started being given posthumously also. The Prime Minister of the country recommends the name of a person for Bharat Ratna to the President.
The Center had announced to give Bharat Ratna award to 5 personalities this year. Madan Mohan Malviya, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pranab Mukherjee, Bhupen Hazarika and Nanaji Deshmukh have received this honor during Modi’s tenure after assuming power in 2014. Including the 5 celebrities of 2024, the number of people who have received this honor so far has reached 53.
