The Income Tax Department has given big relief to the Congress Party. The Income Tax Department has told the Supreme Court that it will not take any drastic steps to recover Rs 1700 crore from the Congress party during the Lok Sabha elections. The Income Tax Department urged the court to post the case for hearing in June. A few days ago the Income Tax Department had given a notice of Rs 1700 crore to Congress.

The Income Tax Department (IT) told the Supreme Court that it will not take any coercive steps to recover Rs 1700 crore from the Congress party during the Lok Sabha elections. At the same time, the Income Tax Department urged the court to adjourn the case till hearing in June.


The Income Tax Department says that they do not want to create trouble for any party during the elections. This is a big relief for Congress. Let us tell you that a few days ago the Income Tax Department had given a notice of Rs 1700 crore to Congress. This notice is for assessment year 2017-18 to 2020-21, it includes both penalty and interest.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the Income Tax Department will not take any strict action against Congress till the Lok Sabha elections. The department has appealed to the Supreme Court to adjourn the case till June. The department said that we do not want to increase the troubles of any party during the elections.

After receiving the notice from the Income Tax Department, the Congress party targeted the BJP. A few days ago, Jairam Ramesh had said that on the basis of the errors on the basis of which this new notice of unprecedented recovery has been given to the Congress, the Income Tax Department should recover more than Rs 4600 crore from the BJP.
