Review of Bad News, Vicky Kaushal made his debut in Hindi cinema with the comedy film ‘Love Shav Te Chicken Khurana’ but his landings in the other three comedy films released recently were not good. This time Vicky Kaushal has taken the flight of comedy with Anand Tiwari, with whom he had done ‘Love Per Square Foot’ six years ago. This is considered to be the first Hindi film released directly on OTT. Vicky Kaushal is a great actor.
He has also proved himself in ‘Dunky’, ‘Sam Bahadur’, ‘Sardar Udham’ and ‘Uri’. Star material is also within him, this film ‘Bad News’ proves for the first time. Vicky Kaushal has shown the same star material in the song ‘Tauba Tauba’ by Canada-based Punjabi singer Karan Aujla, who was in the news due to his long feud with Sidhu Moosewala.
Everyone knows the story of the film ‘Bad News‘, so there is nothing to keep hidden here. It is already known from the trailer that the story is about twins growing in a woman’s womb who have different fathers. The film brings out how these two flowers bloom in the same night. Akhil and Saloni, who came with their mothers to a Punjabi party in Delhi, meet in typical Punjabi style. And, before the audience can understand anything special, both of them get married and go on honeymoon in Punjabi style.
Akhil has his own past. Due to this he cannot miss any phone call from his mother. Saloni gets upset by this. Akhil keeps doing excessive ‘PDA’ with her, Saloni gets more upset due to this. The second hero in the story that sets out to explain the difference between ‘hobby’ and ‘sapne’ is Gurbir, in whose hotel Saloni goes to do a second job. Saloni, irritated with Akhil, shares bed with Gurbir and is unable to refuse even Akhil who came to celebrate her anniversary the same night.
Now if the logic of feminism and science is removed from the film, then the film has become a good comedy film. It also has a good beginning, middle and end. Its writers have filled in a lot of jokes in between. There are a lot of gags based on other films including Dharma Productions’ own films. Vicky Kaushal and his wife Katrina Kaif are also in the cast and the film has a good song, a repackaging of ‘Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam’. Rest of the songs are in Punjabi. Also gives a complete Punjabi feel to the film. Karan Johar has also launched a controversial singer like Karan Aujla in Hindi cinema with this film.
Vicky Kaushal is in the cast of this film. His tuning with director Anand Tiwari is old and the entire drama of the film is in his name. Although the script by Ishita Moitra and Tarun Dudeja is weak, the hard work done by Sumeet Vyas keeps it going. Since the makers have not felt the need to pause in the script of the film, hence Vicky Kaushal also keeps changing his feelings at the same pace.

Be it the scene in the film where Vicky Kaushal sits with his mother saying that he is not the ‘best son’ or the scene with Tripti in which he is afraid of missing his mother’s call, if Vicky Kaushal had got a chance then it would have been like this. He could have done one or two more wonders in this film. He is incomparable with Amy Virk in comedy and Tripti Dimri’s ‘Taap’ also matches him well in romantic scenes. The magic he has created with choreographer Bosco in the song ‘Tauba Tauba’ is simply a sight to behold.
Faisal Rashid also managed to leave his impact in the role of a doctor who runs a fertility center. Almost 80 percent of the dialogues and songs of the film are in Punjabi, this is a major weakness of this film. You can ‘enjoy’ this film only if you know working Punjabi. About half a dozen cinematographers together have kept its look and feel amazing.
