Review of Phir ayi Haseen Dilruba- Taapse Pannu, Vikrant Massey and Sunny Kaushal steals the show

Review of Phir ayi Haseen Dilruba, When the film Haseen Dilruba released in the year 2021, was released, the content seemed different. Many stories on pulp fiction have been made in Hindi cinema. Now the story of Haseen Dillruba was taken forward in Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba.

Well, Haseen Dilruba’s Rani (Taapsee Pannu) was a killer, in the first part Neil (Harshvardhan Rane) lost his life due to an extra marital affair with Rani. Rani’s husband Rishabh i.e. Rishu (Vikrant Massey) cuts his hand to save Rani.

The highly anticipated sequel to Haseen Dilruba, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, premiered on Netflix on August 9, 2024.

What’s new in the story?

Rishu (Vikrant Massey) is now living his life as Ravi. Rani (Taapsee Pannu) runs her own parlor. Both are living hiding from the police in Agra. There too, their life is not easy, while on one hand Abhimanyu (Sunny Kaushal) has fallen madly in love with Rani, while Rishu’s landlady Poonam (Bhumika Dubey) is desperate to have physical relations with him.

Neel’s real uncle and police officer Mrityunjay Paswan (Jimmy Shergill) is searching for Rishu. Rani and Rishu are trying to go to Thailand illegally. In the previous film, Rani and Rishu got the idea to kill Neil after reading the book Kasauli Ka Kahar by writer Dinesh Pandit, this time they take the help of his book Crocodile Ka Shinkaja.

There is a dialogue at the beginning of the film that what is love that does not cross the limits of madness, relationships are maintained in consciousness. When Taapsee speaks this dialogue, it seems that the madness of love will be more than the previous film. However this does not happen. The writer of this film, Kanika Dhillon, had told that the thought of a sequel had not come to mind during the first part.

That thing is reflected in the story, because this time the characters of Rani and Rishu are not as fast-paced as before. There is also a crocodile angle in the story, which is shown again and again in the climax for the thrill, although the same thing destroys that thrill. Considering the dark zone of the film, cinematographer Vishal Sinha’s work is excellent.

Director Jaiprad Desai’s grip is strong on the first half, but becomes loose in the second half. The scenes of the police finding out the incident by watching CCTV footage of the roads, reading Dinesh Pandit’s book, taking out call records, look ridiculous. Many of the dialogues like Pandit ji says chalan se na chaal se pyaar karne valon  ko parkhon unke dil ke haal se… Maintain the feel of the original film.

Taapsee Pannu is a good actress, can fit into any role. However, this time Rani’s style or should we say the salt which should have been there in this character was less visible. Vikrant Massey’s magical acting is missed as his parts are not as powerful as the original film.

Sunny Kaushal will surprise you with his acting. Till now Sunny had not got a chance to play a role with layers. When he got it, he left no stone unturned. Jimmy Shergill is seen in his familiar style in a small role. The song Ek Haseena Thi… Ek Deewana Tha… from the film Karz, released in the year 1980, makes the scene interesting.
