Snatching gang Arrested by South Delhi Police and Special Task Force Team Combined and one minor, who was also a part of this gang. One of the members of the snatcher’s gang calls himself an Advocate. South Delhi Police and Special Task Force Team used technical support to trace down stolen Mobile phones and track the location of these snatchers. The police team recovered 40 stolen Mobile phones, 6 fake bills, and 2 fake stamps from these gangs on 9 February. This gang used Auto Rickshaw for snatching.
South Delhi Campus Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohit Meena said in media “On 30 January in South Campus Police Station a lady Reena launched an F.I.R about Jewelry, Cash, and Mobile Phone were stolen from her house that time revenge case was registered. Our police station team and Special task force were working together. In this Investigation, we recovered 40 mobile phones, and we recovered gold and silver jewelry from another person who was in contact with Robbers, and we recovered Auto Rickshaw which they used to locate houses during the day, which they could rob with ease.
Snatching Gang Arrested by South Delhi Police: How many Snatching cases in Delhi are registered?
Delhi Police registered 6,958 cases of snatching during the year 2023. In 2022 Delhi police Registered 7498 Snatching cases there is a decline of 7.20 percent in this type of cases. Delhi Police working hard to control this type of crime. To curb the menace of snatching, the Delhi Police introduced measures like the identification of hotspots of snatching and community policing programs, etc.
Under which section is the Snatching case registered?
Whoever commits theft shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, or with a fine, or with both
In the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (XLV of 1860), after section 379, the following sections shall be inserted, namely: —
379A. Snatching.
(1) Whoever, with the intention to commit theft, suddenly or quickly or forcibly seizes or secures or grabs or takes away from any person or from his physical possession any moveable property and makes or attempt to make escape with such property, is said to commit snatching.

(2) Whoever attempts to commit snatching shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than five years, but which may extend to ten years, and with fine which may extend to twenty-five thousand rupees.
(3) Whoever commits snatching shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than seven years, but which may extend to ten years, and with fine which may extend to twenty-five thousand rupees.
(4) Whoever, after committing or attempting to commit snatching, causes hurt or wrongful restraint of fear of hurt, in order to effect his escape shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, in addition to the punishment provided for the offence of snatching by the preceding sub-sections.
379B. Snatching after preparation made for causing death, hurt, or restraint in order to the committing of snatching.—Whoever commits or attempts to commit snatching, having made preparation for causing death, or hurt, or restraint, or fear of death, or of hurt, or of restraint, to any person, in order to the committing of such snatching, or in order to the retaining of property taken by such snatching, shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than seven years but which may extend to ten years, and with fine which may extend to twenty-five thousand rupees.
