Supreme Court did not give any decision on Kejriwal’s bail plea. A hearing was held in the Supreme Court today on the interim bail plea of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who is jailed in the Delhi liquor scam, but after the hearing, the Supreme Court bench stood down without giving any order. Now the Supreme Court bench can pass order on Kejriwal’s petition on Thursday or next week.
Kejriwal had sought interim bail in the court, hearing which on May 3, the bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta had said that in view of the Lok Sabha elections, Kejriwal’s interim bail can be considered.

Senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi presented arguments on behalf of Kejriwal and Additional Solicitor General SV Raju presented arguments on behalf of ED. Kejriwal’s lawyer Singhvi says that there is no evidence against the Chief Minister and his arrest is illegal. Failure to appear before the investigating agency cannot be a basis for arrest. SV Raju says that the decision to arrest was not only taken by the investigating officers but was also taken by a special judge.
The apex court told senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing on behalf of the Chief Minister, that the court does not want him to do government work after getting interim bail. If your client does government work, it would be a conflict of interest and we do not want that. Singhvi assured the bench that if Kejriwal gets interim bail in the case, he will not see any file related to the excise policy scam.

Mehta said that if Kejriwal had cooperated in the investigation, he would not have been arrested, but he ignored nine summonses. He said that the impression is being created with great success that Arvind Kejriwal has not done anything, but he has been arrested just before the elections.
ED’s lawyer Additional Solicitor General SV Raju opposed Kejriwal’s interim bail and said, ‘This is not a politically motivated case. We are not worried about the politics taking place in this case, but our concern is about the evidence. Initially our focus was not on Arvind Kejriwal nor was the ED thinking of taking action against Kejriwal, but as the investigation progressed, Kejriwal’s role became clear.
