Swatantrya Veer Savarkar Review: Randeep Hooda’s award winning acting is the life of the film

Swatantrya Veer Savarkar Review: Randeep Hooda’s award winning acting is the life of the film.

Actor turned producer-director and writer Randeep Hooda’s film ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar‘ is an attempt to write in detail those pages of history who, according to its makers, were ‘killed’ under a plan. This film, which reached the theaters with the tagline ‘Who Killed His Story’, reveals the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, one of the heroes of the Indian freedom struggle, and his policies of armed revolution.

Randeep Hooda has played the role of Savarkar in the film. The film tells about the thinking with which Savarkar was moving forward and strengthening his organization to liberate India from the slavery of the British. If he had been successful in that, the country would have got independence long ago.

The story of the film ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar’ starts with the plague epidemic. Savarkar’s father was infected with the plague epidemic. British police officers burn alive all the people infected with the plague epidemic, including Savarkar’s father. Savarkar has hatred towards the British rule since childhood. After growing up, he forms the Bharat Secret Society for the independence of the country and in this organization he joins the youth of the country who want to liberate India from the slavery of the British.

He goes to London to study law and tries to strengthen his organization from there and due to this he gets sentenced to Kalapani. After serving his sentence in Kala Pani, he is arrested for his involvement in the conspiracy to assassinate Mahatma Gandhi, but is released due to lack of evidence.

In the film ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar’, which tries to show the unheard aspects of Savarkar’s life, the emphasis is on the fact that he was not at all influenced by Gandhi’s non-violence ideology. He respects Gandhi but opposes his ideology. In this film, along with the ideology of Subhash Chandra Bose and Savarkar, it was also told that the great hero of developing the political ideology of Hindu nationalism goes to Savarkar. The story of the film has been written by Randeep Hooda along with Utkarsh Naithani.

The way Hooda has done research regarding this film, its impact is visible in the entire film. Through this nearly three-hour long film, Randeep Hooda has thrown light on such aspects of Savarkar’s life, of which the general public is completely unaware. Through this film, he has also raised the question that why no Congress leader was punished for Kalapani?

Earlier, Mahesh Manjrekar was directing the film ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar’, but due to ideological differences with Randeep Hooda, when Mahesh Manjrekar left the film, Randeep Hooda himself took over the reins of director of this film. Even though this is Randeep Hooda’s first film as a director, the grand manner and depth with which he has presented this film is commendable.

While watching the punishment scenes of Kalapani gives goosebumps, the emotional scenes of the film have also become quite effective. The pace of the film is a bit slow before the interval, but after the interval the film holds it’s own and many dialogues in the film even get applause in the cinema hall.

Swatantrya Veer Savarkar Review: Randeep Hooda and Ankita Lokhande did full justice to their roles

The entire film rests on the shoulders of Randeep Hooda. The way he has undergone transformation for the role of Savarkar in the film ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar’ is very impressive. Whenever he comes on screen, he leaves a different impact. He has completely brought the role of Savarkar alive on screen.

Even though Ankita Lokhande got less screen share in the role of Savarkar’s wife Yashodabai in the film, she has tried to do complete justice to her role. Amit Sial’s acting in the role of Savarkar’s elder brother is very good. Hooda also believes that the story of Baba Savarkar can become a separate film in itself.

The weakest link of the film ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar‘ is the casting of its supporting actors. The actors playing the roles of Gandhi, Nehru and Jinnah do not look like Gandhi, Nehru and Jinnah at all. The casting director of the film, Parag Mehta, apart from the lead actors of the film, has cast the rest of the actors in such a way that they do not match the freedom fighters of that era. The film has mostly been shot on sets and these sets look close to reality.

In this case, the work of set designer Nilesh Wagh is praiseworthy. The music of the film is average. In a film based on patriotism, there should have been at least one song that would excite you. But there is no such song in this film. The background score of the film has definitely proved helpful in making the scenes of the film effective. Arvind Krishna’s cinematography is amazing, he has presented that period on screen very beautifully.

The editing of Kamlesh Karna and Rajesh Pandey is a bit slow before the interval, but after the interval this lack of editing is not noticeable. Costume designer Sachin Lowlekar has designed the costumes of the actors well according to that period.
