Teenager kills his elder brother for money in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. On Tuesday night, the younger brother murdered the elder brother by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon due to a dispute over land in village Ramdaspur of Hoshiarpur district. It is being told that the elder brother had sold the land for about Rs 20-22 lakh to go abroad. There were often disputes between the two brothers regarding land money.

It is being told that after the murder of his elder brother Manjot Singh (22), the accused Manpreet Singh (19) told the village sarpanch Chhaminder Singh on phone on the night itself that some people had entered his house. The Sarpanch immediately informed this to the Garhdiwala police. When the police reached the spot along with the Sarpanch, the lights and gate of the house were closed. When the police went inside the room, they found Manjot’s throat cut with a sharp weapon and his body lying on the bed soaked in blood.

It is noteworthy that their parents had died a long time ago. Both brothers lived with their grandmother Naranjan Kaur. As soon as the incident of murder was known, DSP Tanda Harjeet Singh Randhawa, SHO Garhdiwala Hardevpreet Singh reached the spot, took stock of the situation and took possession of Manjot Singh’s body and the ambulance was called and sent for post-mortem. The police have arrested the alleged accused of this murder and have started further action.

Tanda deputy superintendent of police Harjit Singh Randhawa said that a murder case had been registered against Manpreet as prima facie, he appeared to be the culprit. Once the post-mortem will be done the body will be handed over to the family for last rites.

He said that the accused was a drug addict and used to fight with his brother over money. The  done brothers lived with their grandmother as their parents had died several years ago, the DSP said.

The accused was jobless and often remained away for days. Villagers said that he had returned to Ramdaspur on Tuesday itself after around two weeks.

The grandmother, who was sleeping in another room, told the police that she had neither heard Manjot’s screams nor seen anyone moving in the house, but the police are verifying her statement.

As the grandmother is very old and Manjot was her only support system, she is in extreme grief and shocked to hear about the incident. Her close relatives are informed and neighbors were there to console her. She told that she lost her son and daughter in law few years ago and now this ordeal has made her feel terrible.
