Worship will continue in Gyanvapi basement, Supreme Court refuses to stay High Court’s decision

Worship will continue in Gyanvapi basement, Supreme Court refuses to stay High Court’s decision, Anjuman Masjid Arrangement Committee has received a setback from the Supreme Court. SC has refused to ban the puja in Gyanvapi basement.

The Supreme Court has refused to ban the worship in Gyanvapi basement. Varanasi District Court had given the decision to perform the puja. The Muslim side had gone to the High Court in protest against this. Now the Supreme Court has also refused to stay the decision to stop the puja.

While hearing the petition of Anjuman Masjid Committee on Monday, he said that despite the orders of January 17 and January 31, the Muslim side was offering Namaz in Gyanvapi. The Hindu side is also worshiping in the basement. Therefore it is important to maintain the status quo. The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Hindu side on the appeal of the Masjid Committee and sought their reply.

It is noteworthy that on January 31, the Varanasi District Court had given permission to the Hindu side to worship in the Vyas ji basement of the Gyanvapi complex. In this decision it was said that the priest named from Kashi Vishwanath Trust, Vyas ji, would perform the puja in the basement. The Masjid Committee had filed a petition in the High Court against this decision and demanded a ban on worshiping. The High Court had rejected the committee’s petition. After this, the Juman Arrangements Masjid Committee went to the Supreme Court. In which the Supreme Court has refused to intervene.

The priest who filed the petition for permission to worship in the Gyanvapi basement said that till 1993, his grandfather Vyas ji used to worship in the basement. After this the puja was banned. Till November 1993, Somnath Vyas ji’s family used to perform puja in the basement, which was closed during the reign of the then Mulayam Singh Yadav government.

The District Judge Court has given its verdict in the Vyas Ji Tehkhana case in just four months. Plaintiff Shailendra Kumar Pathak had filed a suit in the Civil Judge Senior Division Court on September 25 for granting the right to worship. After this, on the same day an application was given to transfer it to the District Judge Court. On October 7, the civil judge had ordered to transfer the case to the District Judge Court.
